Derek has been in the finance and risk management industry since 2003 and has accumulated wide array of experience within risk management, underwriting, team management, financial management, corporate finance, financial restructuring and turnaround, business strategy and planning, financial planning and analysis and mergers and acquisitions. He continues to pursue ongoing education to sharpen and solidify his skills in finance and has been doing so since 2009 and continues today. 

He has obtained a wide array of experience since starting in the industry and starting in 2011 was an integral part in building out a successful corporate finance and M&A practice from the ground up until recently departing that firm in the summer of 2020. He has worked with hundreds of clients and have completed well over $500 million in transaction value over these years. In working with small and medium sized business owners, he has developed a deep appreciation for the sacrifices and hard work these business owners pride themselves on in making their businesses a success. His proudest achievements and success stem from serving his clients and helping them achieve their goals. 

Derek takes get pride in his family and community being a proud husband, father and Calgarian. He continues to support many various causes and organizations in the city in making small steps and improvements that can compound into a larger overall impact over time. He loves the game of hockey and has been playing and watching since a very young age and continues to do both today. In addition to his he loves to waterski, golf, spend time at the lake and participate in various other sporting activities. 

Derek has obtained his FMVA (Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst) professional designation from the Corporate Finance Institute and his Corporate Finance Professional Certificate from Columbia University.
